Chocolate apple fondant

Juicy apples, chocolate and a pinch of cinnamon – Anne Faber's chocolate apple fondant combines the most delicious flavours of autumn in a warm dessert that tastes simply heavenly with vanilla ice cream.

Preheat the oven to 160 °C fan.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until fluffy. Add the melted butter, chocolate nut spread, chocolate milk and vanilla extract and stir until smooth.
In a second bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
Roughly chop the almonds in a food processor and add to the wet ingredients together with the flour and mix.
Grease a 15 x 25 cm baking dish and spread the batter in it.
Quarter, core and peel the apples, slice them and spread them over the batter.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until the surface is firm and the inside is still soft and juicy.
Leave to cool for 10 minutes and dust with icing sugar. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on each portion.
